Dear Inter-Neighborhood Council:
I am writing today as a member of the Water Adequacy for Residential Development
(WARD) working group, the sponsor of the WARD ballot initiative. As you probably
know, the goal of WARD ballot initiative is to help conserve Bozeman’s finite water
supply while providing affordable housing for rent and for sale to Bozeman residents.
In the initiative, affordable housing for rent is defined as 60% AMI or less, and affordable
housing for sale is defined as 120% AMI or less. A full copy of the initiative, a policy
brief, and FAQs are available at wardbzn.com. To get the initiative on the November
2025 City of Bozeman ballot, WARD members will be out collecting signatures through
June 23.
The WARD working group is all-volunteer, multigenerational (age range, 20’s to 71), and
a combination of homeowners and renters. We come from a variety of socio-economic
and educational backgrounds, and our group comprises cooks, bakers, biologists,
beekeepers, teachers, students, and others who care deeply about Bozeman and are
working to ensure it is an environmentally sustainable and affordable place to live where
you work. We have written extensively about the WARD ballot initiative, with opinion
pieces printed in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, the April issue of Bozeman Magazine,
and the MSU Exponent online.
Today, the WARD working group is offering to discuss the WARD ballot initiative with
any Neighborhood Association that would like to discuss it with us. Such a discussion
could be done at a Neighborhood Association meeting or via a Neighborhood
Association representative. If your Neighborhood Association is interested in talking with
the WARD working group, please reach out to us at wardbozeman@gmail.com. Thank
you.
Sincerely,
Daniel Carty, WARD working group https://www.wardbzn.com/
