Hello Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Commissioners, I'm writing today in full support of the Centennial Park Neighborhood's Conservation inAction Resident-led Proposal. Their request for alternate zoning in the UDC update isappropriate for the following reasons: It will protect the existing variety of housing types.R-A zoning will be more likely to conserve mature trees and vegetation (appreciating green assets). It will help preserve the Historic homes in the area. R-A zoning will allow for neighborhood-friendly infill over time.Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing (NOAH) will be less likely to be redeveloped. It will preserve the existing character of the neighborhood which lies within theNeighborhood Conservation Overlay District (NCOD). For the same reasons, I respectfully request that you not only adopt the alternate zoningproposed by the Centennial Park neighborhood, but that you extend it to apply beyondthe current cut-off at Third Street so that it includes the entirety of the NortheasternNeighborhood. As the Commission well knows, the Northeastern Neighborhood is where much of the mostaffordable housing already exists, and use of an arbitrary and capricious zoning overlay thatseeks to artificially inflate development and in so doing drive out existing communities and long-time residents - many of whom are public servants and/or on fixed incomes - is adisgraceful compromise that devalues the many intangibles that long-term permanentresidents contribute to the social fabric of this town while elevating a "build baby build"mentality that caters solely to development corporations and the wealthy.
