Dear Community Development,
I’ve had the privilege of calling Bozeman home my entire life. I've seen our town
evolve in many ways over the years—some exciting, others more challenging. I’m
writing to respectfully voice my concern regarding Application #24147 for the
proposed boutique hotel.
While I understand the intention to support Bozeman’s growth and tourism economy,
I’m deeply concerned that this particular project doesn’t appropriately fit the proposed
space, especially given its proximity to Hawthorne Elementary. Ongoing construction
along Mendenhall Street will create both safety and logistical challenges for school
children, families, and pedestrians navigating that area.
I’m also worried about the cumulative strain on downtown’s infrastructure. With
another hotel starting soon near East Babcock, we must ask ourselves "how many
more large-scale developments can our downtown realistically support without
compromising the very character and functionality that make it special?"
Additionally, we cannot ignore the strain on our limited resources, notably our water
supply, which is already under pressure as the city grows. Every new development
compounds this issue. A hotel of this size will undoubtedly place increased demand
on utilities, emergency services, and parking.
I believe there could be a better use for this space. Perhaps something that serves
the local community more directly. While I don’t claim to have the perfect solution, I
encourage the commission to pause and truly consider whether this is the right fit, in
the right place, at the right time.
Thank you for your time, and for your thoughtful consideration of public feedback on
this important matter.
Sincerely,
Alia
