Hello,
I am a resident of Bozeman and live on East Beall St., half a block away from the proposed Guthrie Development
site.
My biggest issue with this development is that there will not be near enough parking spaces for hotel guests,
apartment owners & renters, restaurant and spa guests not to mention the 100 plus staff they will need between the
two hotels. From what I’ve read the developer is only going to have to have 103 parking spots available off site and
very few spots sounds like under 20 onsite available.
I wish someone would explain how that is going to work in practical terms. People are not taking public
transportation to the hotel to stay, they are driving in their cars. Workers are not going to “ride their bikes”. What is
the impact on the surrounding area which is already over crowded with vehicles from construction workers?
I can see from the A/C Hotel parking situation that no one thought this through and both sides of Tracy Ave. are
blocked by cars parked by the valets outside of the hotel. It becomes one lane and many times I have had to back up
to let cars come through while I am heading towards Mendenhall from my home. Why wasn’t a proper pull in
designed for this hotel for check-in. I've never see anything like this at a hotel. Adding more hotels and more cars
into the mix of this neighborhood will make it a congestion nightmare for homeowners and renters living here.
What I suggest is that Homebase construct a garage to house all of the necessary parking for their hotels.
Alternatively, if they were able to build a garage for The Henry why are they getting away with not building garage
space for the Guthrie development?
The commissioners should also look into limiting parking on the streets in this neighborhood. Have paid on street
parking for non-residents and limit it to 3 hourst. This is so easy to do and can be done through stations on every
block and apps on telephones. Residents could be given a sticker for their cars, registered in Montana that would
exempt them. This would be a money maker for the city and limit parking by construction workers. Their parking
spots should be supplied by the builder and or paid for by the builder.
BTW I live in a home built by Homebase and it has adequate parking for two cars and that model was abandoned
since it is more costly. Homebase is making enough money off of the development they have undertaken in
Bozeman and when is someone going make them put the accessibility and livability of this neighborhood above
increasing one's bank account.
