Dear Members of the Bozeman City Commission, We humbly request that Bozeman officially declare April 5th each year as “First Contact Day.” While the warp flight of Dr. Zefram Cochrane and the subsequent meeting with theVulcans may be fictional, its message is anything but: it celebrates humanity’s unshakeable belief in exploration, cooperation, and a brighter tomorrow. By embracing this date, you’llhelp transform Bozeman into the heart of one of the galaxy’s most uplifting stories—a place where imagination takes flight faster than you can say, “Engage!” Enshrining First Contact Day in Bozeman means igniting the passions of Trekkies everywherewith community events, science fairs, gatherings, and educational programs that herald new frontiers and celebrate the best of human ambition. It’s a chance to spark not just ourimaginations but our collective spirit of innovation—leading us all the way to April 5, 2063, when we’ll raise a glass of Romulan Ale (or maybe just a good Montana microbrew) to theday that inspires us all to boldly go where no community has gone before! In an effort not to annoy anyone at the council, I want to let you know we plan on doing this campaign along with other ideas leading all the way up to April 5, 2063. None of it will be adversarial in any way. If there is ever any concern please reach out to me.
