Mayor, Deputy Mayor, City Commissioners
I am unable to attend in person tonight to support the efforts of City Staff, City Planning and
City Economic Development Departments recommendation to approve the Guthrie Project
Redesign that Andy Holloran and his team have brought forth tonight.
We feel that this project lends to the redevelopment of Mid-Town and its revitalization, and this
is just one of many higher density projects with an affordable housing component to it, is
exactly what we are trying to create a more Work, Stay and Play district that lends itself well to
the redevelopment that has already started.
We continue to say we don’t want sprawl, but need more housing and we feel this project does
exactly that. We continue to talk about how critical it is to have developers build more
affordable housing units, but then when they are brought forward, even with checking all the
development process boxes, we cave into the Not In My Backyard complaints.
We should either make a stand to commit to working and encouraging developers to add an
affordable component.
or
We should just take the stand that we don’t want any more development of affordable units
and then put our energies into other areas of improvement.
Having every project being scrutinized outside of the UDC that is supposed to give City Staff
Reliability in doing their job and the Developer assurances that if they follow the development
guidelines it will be approved.
Having projects redesigned in open public give no one assurances that we are serious about
building affordable housing units, while stopping sprawl and creating higher density.
I urge all of you to vote for the Guthrie Project.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
