Dear members of the City Commission,
My family has owned the property located at 310 N 7th Ave since 1972. As you well know,
our eastern property boundary borders the proposed location to the Guthrie. It is extremely unsettling to me that in an effort to justify their project, our property is mentioned in the
developer's application. We, like the overwhelming majority in our neighborhood, areadamantly against the Guthrie. HomeBase Partners suggests that the Guthrie will be a
transition building between future development on our property and the eastern neighborhood.I'm writing to make clear that our family has zero intention of any significant developments on
our property, as implied by the applicant, nor do we have plans to sell our property, which hasbeen in our family for over 50 years. We currently run the Sapphire Motel and it is our plan to
do so into the extended future, meaning upcoming generations. Therefore, the Guthrie will notbe a transition property but will in fact be a massive non conforming structure overshadowing
us and all the surrounding neighborhood.
I and my family request that the Commissioners please recognize the appeal that has beenfiled by our neighborhood and deny the Guthrie application. We need a development that finds
a balance between affordable housing and adding value to our neighborhood, rather thandestroying it. While we respect and very much support development of affordable housing in
our community, it should not be achieved at the detriment to everyone around it.
I thank you all for giving me the chance to voice my concern and hope that you will supportour neighborhood.
Sincere regards,
Jake
