To the Bozeman City Commission, I am writing to express my strong support for The Guthrie apartment complex and to encourage the Commission to view this development as a critical step toward addressing Bozeman’s ongoing need for affordable long-term corporate housing. As you know, our downtown and tourism economy depends heavily on the hospitality and service industry—hotels, restaurants, and shops that rely on a workforce that is often priced out of the very community they serve. The Guthrie’s owners have expressed a clear intention to dedicate a significant number of units to downtown employees—individuals who are vital to the health and sustainability of Bozeman’s economy but who often struggle to find housing within reasonable proximity to their jobs. The Guthrie’s location is ideal for these workers: walkable to Main Street and many major employers, reducing or even eliminating the need for personal vehicles. This aligns with current trends in downtown living, where many renters in similar above- business apartments do not own cars and live with minimal parking demand. The proposed pricing is also in line with existing downtown housing, offering a modern, centrally located alternative that is attainable for working professionals. Supporting this development is supporting the backbone of Bozeman’s downtown— our workforce. I urge the Commission to consider the broader economic impact of enabling these essential workers to live where they work and help keep Bozeman’s heart beating strong. Thank you for your time and consideration. Kristin Fetterman Bozeman MT
