Dear Commissioners:
I am writing to express my support for the appeal of Application 25033.
I have lived in this neighborhood for over twenty years. I am in support of
affordable housing and also believe this neighborhood is appropriate for a potential
affordable housing project. However, I don’t support this project. I believe that
affordable housing should be humane, affordable and meet the basic needs of its
tenants. I believe we need units that can support families. I believe we need options
for long term housing for hardworking Bozeman residents.
This project assumes that its tenants are making over $30 hour (not readily available
in this community), won’t be cooking (as there is not a true kitchen) won’t need to
park a car anywhere near their home, and aren’t planning to stick around or put
down “roots” in Bozeman.
This is a neighborhood that prides itself on family and stability. The last thing we
need is more short term housing.
With a little bit of thought and effort, I believe this project could be successful. The size andheight of the building should be appropriate for the location (think 3 stories max). Thereshould be parking for every unit. There should be 2-3 bedroom options with full kitchens toprovide affordable housing for families.
I urge the Bozeman City Commission to reverse the decision on Application
25033.
Thank you,
Jennifer Andrews
