Dear Mayor Cunningham and City Commissioners: Approving the
Guthrie is a bad idea. For one thing, if neighborhoods are the backbone of this community, the Guthrie's scale makes it more of a menace than an asset and actually run to counter to
city codes (38.230.100A.5.c and 38.230.100A.7). Second, following the NCOD ismandatory, not optional. Third, and MOST important, there is the matter of traffic and the
Whittier Elementary School. We are talking here about children walking to school bythemselves, or being dropped off by parents and running across streets. As you consider your
vote, cast your minds to the intersection of Oak and N.15th and to the silent memorial thatrests there. You know it so well. The matter of intersections and traffic are not trivial in
Bozeman. When it comes to our kids, the issue of traffic and your assurance by your vote thatthe Whittier intersection is, in fact, safe (or not) is paramount. A vote in favor of the Guthrie
means that you have no reservations whatsoever about the safety of our children as they crossthese streets with the increased traffic that will come with the Guthrie.
Sincerely,Bob Rydell
