Emily, I attended the "workshop" at Chief Joseph. The presenter did not speak very clearly
and his visuals were worthless. I asked people sitting up front if they could read them andthey also said "No." Then we broke into groups that were too large to be seated together
and the gripe session began. In September of 2023 I attended a planning board meeting thatused images of exactly what the proposed UDC entailed. I expected something like that and
the opportunity to voice our opinions on the exact issues: zone edge transitions, buildingheights allowed by zones, mass and scale, etc. But no. The presenter asked what the word
neighborhood meant to each of us and so began a rambling evening of emotional venting. Isthis the purpose of a workshop? When anyone tried to steer the conversation toward
specifics, the presenters said it was too complicated or that's the way it has to be. Really? There was no attempt to address the issues that residents care about: the proposed UDC. I
left thinking I would not go to another meeting but I will attend to see if the presenters makean effort to address the specifics of the proposed UDC. Break into smaller groups...let
people move about to weigh in on specifics in the code. Give us a real opportunity to engagein the process. Mary Lou Osman
