Dear Sir, Madam,
I live in Bozeman but am visiting Charleston, South Carolina, particularly Rockville, just outside of Charleston.
Mighty live Oaks and water Oaks stand in my front yard where they have stood for hundreds of years. Angel Oak, a
revered live oak about 10 miles away, has stood since the late 1300s. Nothing is more difficult in Charleston for a
petitioner before authorities, charged with preservation of their beauty, than to seek to cut or trim a tree.
Please preserve the tree on Lamme. If you let it live, it will be there long after whatever it was cut to make room for
is completely forgotten.
I plan to talk to Jack Bennett, who, as I recall, the Charleston owner of property across from the Isle of Books on
Mendenhall that is being developed. The beautiful tree there also should be preserved. No reason to cut down a tree
in a parking lot. I doubt if it will live to be older than the oak trees in Charleston, but at least it’s older than
Bozeman. Please don’t cut it down.
Respectfully,
Robert R. Black
