HomeMy WebLinkAboutProposed Actions for Study Commission Goals 2.19.25Proposed Study Commission Goals for 2/19/25 Meeting Some possible Actions for the proposed Goals – #1 – Develop a comprehensive understanding of the City of Bozeman’s current structure, form and process of local government, for ourselves and the community. Actions for Goal #1: • Presentations to SC and Community at meetings from relevant city Staff • Reading and discussion of adopted City Policy Documents (ie, City Strategic Plan, Community Plan, etc. in Digital Binder and more) #2 – Conduct a transparent and inclusive study process that engages the community in evaluating our current structures and identifying any necessary changes. Actions for Goal #2: • Create SC Communications plan with strategies to expand community participation • Evaluate ways the City receives/utilizes information and advice from Citizens Advisory Boards, Neighborhood Associations and other City Advisory structures • Identify under-served/-represented (BIB) sectors of the community to reach out and learn from them #3 – Engage the Community in the local government study process using a variety of methods to gather information regarding what is working, what is not working, and ideas to explore to improve the City’s governance. Actions for Goal #3 • Prioritize SC proposals for Study in our City Charter as well as other local government structures • ID role of Surveys and other Data we want to collect • Explore Best Practices from other City governments Goal #4 – Distill identified issues and provide information to the community in an accessible and approachable manner including a draft and final report. Actions for Goal #4 • Implement accessible and approachable communications and interactions recommendations from multiple communications, meetings, media, methods In addition to the 4 Goals proposed, I recommend Goal #5 Addition of Goal #5 - Identify ways to educate all City voters about the City of Bozeman Study Commission's Final Report to encourage their participation in the November 2026, General Election. Actions for Goal #5 – • TBD - based on learnings and experience in earlier Study Commission meetings, Public Comments, research, data, we could work with League of Women Voters and other non-partisan voter education non-profit organizations to reach the widest possible audience of voters.
