NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY
The property at 424 S. Bozeman Av. Features a three (3) bed, one (1) bath single-family residence with one -and-one half stories (full
Main level and Bonus 2nd level) w/ a partial unfinished Basement accessed via a separate entrance at the rear of the structure. The plan is rectangular, with an asymmetrical two-bay façade featuring an enclosed front porch and an attached single-car Garage at the
front of the structure. Primary roof forms are gables with the axis perpendicular to the street. The structure is composed of light
wood frame construction set atop a cut stone foundation, with siding composed primarily of asbestos panels. The current roofing
material is asphalt shingles. Windows are primarily 1:1 single hung or sliding windows, with three-lite fixed pane windows and
sidelights at the Entry. Several additions have been made to the rear (East) and side (North) of the original structure.
HISTORY OF PROPERTY
Research in the sources consulted in this survey has not yielded any significant historical information concerning persons or events
associated with this property. The original 1984 inventory form notes that a fire destroyed part of the original house – it is assumed
that the original structure was built prior to 1904, as evidenced by its appearance on the January 1904 Sanborn map for Bozeman,
and the reconstruction was built in 1910, based on the construction date noted as 1910 within MT Cadastral. Several design
elements and materials have been changed from the original structure over time.

COMMENTS
This structure was noted in the original 1984 inventory as ‘an intrusive element within a potential historic district’. The structure is
not currently within a designated historic district but is adjacent to two historic districts (Lindley Place to the east; South Tracy/South
Black to the west).
INTEGRITY (LOCATION, DESIGN, SETTING, MATERIALS, WORKMANSHIP, FEELING, ASSOCIATION)
The historic integrity of this property has not been retained due to change in the original design (through additions to, and
reconstruction of, the original structure) and materials (through the replacement of original materials with new materials – ex:
asphalt shingles replaced original cedar shingles).
POSSIBLE IMPACTS TO THE SITE
The proposed demolition of this existing structure is anticipated to have no impact on the site’s National Register eligibility, due to
the fact that the existing structure does not meet any applicable NR criteria.
