After pondering an appropriate critique of the updated AHO that will be discussed at tonight’s meeting, we’ve decided that the thoughts shared by Scott Boyd in a recent editorial in theBDC are a well-stated encapsulation of our own thoughts. He wrote the following: “By applying the incentives to the entire development instead of only to the affordable units created it allows for much denser development than a neighborhood can absorb. Finally, this update continues to be a one-size-fits-all ordinance. It makes no distinctions between greenfield developments on raw land versus infill redevelopments in existing, long-established neighborhoods. It does not differentiate between large-scale buildings along our main thoroughfares versus those on quiet residential streets. It should not attempt to treat all developments the same. More permissive incentives should be limited to new undeveloped land or along arterial streets. It should offer fewer incentives in existing infill developments and require these buildings to fit into the existing neighborhood.” Bob and Anne Waters, 509 W Harrison Sent from my iPad
