We, my husband and I, have raised two children in our home on Lamme near 7th street. We have owned our home for just shy of 25 years. Every time we have asked the city for approval to, for example, build a garage on our back side with ONE apartment we have been denied right away. We were told that the city doesn’t want a garage door facing Beall and we could turn the whole thing facing the side which would not be functional and take up the whole property. When we put an addition on our house which only added to the kitchen and moved a bathroom we have to prove enough parking for 4 vehicles (off the street). Now we’re just doing away with seemingly all parking requirements. It’s getting very difficult to be a lowly peasant homeowner in this town. We are having our views and sun taken away one by one. Our roads, and we never know which one, are closed for apparently years. How is this ok? The residents pay for the roads and we aren’t able to use them. Only the developers benefit from the roads being closed. I assume there’s an impact fee in place, do the residents ever get refunded for what we’ve given up for the developer to close down the streets to build their high rise and make all their money? Why is the city allowing all of this? What is the advantage to the city? I have yet to meet a resident that likes or agrees with anything that's been allowed in recent years. Does the city work for the people of the city or the developers looking for loopholes to maximize the money they can make by knocking down another building and cramming more and more people in? I’m just a resident and homeowner who doesn’t know all the codes and changes that have happened. I shouldn't have to have a degree in city codes to let you know this is wrong. I’m curious if the developers are EVER denied what they want to build? I have noticed that they can have a garage door facing the street by the way! Sarah Loen
