Dear Commissioners: I am writing to urge you to take a step back from the
proposed revisions to the AHO. Reducing input from neighbors and neighborhoods
to proposed development projects is an awful idea. Why? Please refer to thestatement of "values" on the city's website. This proposal violates at least 2 of thecity's 4 core values, specifically values associated with Civic Engagement and
Community Character. Foisting decision-making about new neighborhood
developments to city staff without public input is a prima facie (loosely translatedhere as "in your face") response to the clearly expressed value of "opencommunication between citizens and their government." With respect to
Community Character, wouldn't one assume, given the city's values, that residents
affected by these developments are entitled to a public hearing? I recommend that
you repeal the current AHO, write a new document, and bring it into conformitywith the clearly articulated values that the city holds near and dear.
Sincerely,Bob Rydell
