Dear City Commissioners,
I am very concerned with the draft proposal to change the AHO and ask you NOT to vote toadopt it. In particular, I am NOT supportive of the idea to disallow "aggrieved" neighbors or
community members to appeal administrative approval of a project that does not fit with andinstead destroys the integrity of a neighborhood. I am already opposed to administrative
review of the kind of projects developers are proposing these days, which are ridiculouslylarge, tacky, block buildings of mostly apartments that are supposedly affordable for lower
and middle income people in exchange for ridiculous deep "incentives" that hurt existingneighborhoods and the community (for example, allowance of inappropriate height and size
variances, use of cheaper materials, ugly ill-fitting designs, and no planned public parking).Administrative review is done by an unelected and unaccountable member of city staff instead
of elected officials like you going through a transparent process of community discussion toapprove a big change to an existing neighborhood. And I am especially opposed to
administrative review without the community's ability to appeal. I am asking you to vote no" on the draft AHO, to repeal the current AHO (with its ridiculous
deep incentives in exchange for expensive rentals passed off as affordable), and to begin aprocess of putting together an AHO that is truly an affordable housing ordinance with public
input and community approval.Sincerely,
Kiki Leigh Rydell
