Dear Bozeman City Commission,
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposed amendments to the AffordableHousing Ordinance (AHO) being considered on January 28, 2025. While I strongly support
the need for more affordable housing in Bozeman (three of my best friends have moved awayin the past year to buy homes in more affordable cities), I believe it is crucial to ensure that
new developments integrate thoughtfully into existing, long-standing neighborhoods.
A great example of responsible, balanced growth are the developments at 11th Street andArnold, south of campus and 19th and Stucky. These projects successfully introduced newhousing without disrupting the character of the surrounding neighborhoods. It demonstrates
that Bozeman can expand affordable housing while respecting established communities byplacing higher-density housing in areas where it makes sense—near major roads, public
transit, and campus, rather than deep inside historic neighborhoods.
I encourage the Commission to consider approaches that preserve neighborhood integrity
while still creating opportunities for affordability—such as focusing density along majorcorridors, near commercial centers, and in transitional zones rather than inside well-
established residential areas.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your commitment to finding solutions
that benefit both current and future Bozeman residents.
Thank you!
