Kirchoff - Message for Bozeman City Commissioners Regarding AHOFrom:Julia Kirchhoff To:Bozeman Public Comment Subject:[EXTERNAL]Message for Bozeman City Commissioners Regarding AHO Date:Sunday, January 26, 2025 2:23:00 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Dear Bozeman City Commissioners, I am writing to urgently ask you to vote NO on the draft AHO. I beg you to consider both affordable housing and the quality of Bozeman’s current, historic, built environment. I ask youto please repeal the current AHO and engage in a more deliberative and transparent process to address the deficiencies in the AHO that have been identified over and over by Bozemanitesof all stripes, neighbors, friends, the old, young, and new, in countless meetings spanning many years. I feel beyond heartbroken, alongside countless other heartbroken residents ofBozeman, who don’t want to lose their town to rampant development that demonstrates little to no regard for the existing community fabric. Developers should not be exempted fromcertain requirements in return for (short-term) affordable housing. Bozeman, like other American cities, must protect its built environment and ensure affordability without theseincentives. Please think of the long-term, despite the pressures to act hastily that we all know come forcibly from the development sector. Please remember that development happens forthose who will, and already, live here. A shallow incentive, one that expires in 25-50 years, is not worth the greater cost of alienation, congestion, decreased safety, environmentalunsustainability, and poor quality, that these incentives allow. Thank you for your consideration. Warmly, Julia
