Dear City Commissioners:
I am writing to ask you to vote “No” on the draft Affordable Housing Ordinance (AHO), which I
believe should be repealed and rewritten.
While affordable housing is of utmost importance for the health of the Bozeman community, wecan’t do it at the expense of well-established, quality, beloved neighborhoods with charm andcharacter that already exist.
In the AHO’s current form, developers who do the absolute minimum in the name of affordable
housing are offered incentives and relaxed building development requirements. This has resulted in
a disingenuous effort to help with our affordable housing crisis as well as towering, shade-casting,
parking-deficient developments with too many units for the neighborhood where they’re being built.
It does not solve the problem of affordable housing and it is ruining the character of historic
neighborhoods.
The city can and should do better in the effort to bring more affordable housing to Bozeman.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my comments and for your public service. I appreciate you
all!
Sincerely,
Elin Hert
