Dear Bozeman City Commissioners,
An Affordable Housing Ordinance (AHO) should promote and incentivize affordable housing within the context of
protecting the quality of life and character of existing neighborhoods. It should also recognize and plan for water
scarcity. The AHO upon which you are voting does neither.
I ask that you vote against the AHO as written and go back to the drawing board. The people of Bozeman deserve to
have affordable housing within the context of protecting the naturally occurring affordable housing we already have
and make it more likely that existing neighbors want to stay in their homes and not be driven away by towering
structures that rob them of sunlight, views, or memories of why they settled here in the first place.
Any deep or shallow incentives should be made in concert with retaining the character of our existing
neighborhoods while providing more affordable options for home owners and rentals alike. One idea I’d like the
commission to consider is incentivizing existing single family owners to build an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) by
offering low interest loans, rebates or other financial incentives.
Please vote against this AHO and let’s spend the time to draft an affordable housing ordinance that meets all of our
needs - not just those of developers.
Thank you for considering my comments.
Thank you,
Angie Kociolek
