ARTeries Masthead
Welcome to ARTeries!
How can the Montana Arts Council serve you better? You asked us to become more
of a hub, a connector, a drumbeat of art news and creative possibilities. We created
this newsletter to answer your questions, share opportunities and resources, and
build more connectivity amongst our creative community so widely spread across the
Montana landscape.
Arteries are the tiny vessels that bring oxygen-rich blood from your heart to all of your
body’s cells, keeping your body alive and healthy. Here at the Arts Council, we’re
contemplating new ways we can do the same for all of you out there laboring in the
salt mines of art. This bi-weekly e-letter is one way to connect us all, the way arteries
connect the heart with the organs and muscles that make a body thrive.
Just one more thing to read, right? Yeah, but this one’s designed to skim quickly, get
the info that helps you, click on a few links, and get on with your day. And hopefully
glean a little spirit-lifting inspiration to fill your gas tank.
Happy January. Make art.

Artist Spotlight
Now and then a person wakes up and said,
“I’d like to build a pipe organ.” I’m sure this
has happened to you. Today’s quick feature
alights on Missoula's The Instrument Shop,
where imagination, enthusiasm, wood,
goatskin, a plethora of tools turn ideas into
musical instruments. The Instrument Shop
offers classes to people of all ages, building
guitars, pipe organs, banjos, harmonicas,
keyboards, ukuleles, confidence, and trust.
They’re not just building instruments. They’re
really building joy. Check out this Artists In
Schools and Communities grantee.

In Ohio, artists and engineers are collaborating to turn iron oxide sludge from the
polluted Sunday Creek into pigment for paints. “Works just the same as any pigment
you pick up in any art store,” they say. Read about it here. Turning Water Pollution
