Discussion & Action
• HOA email flyer – another product for distribution.
• Paper products at farmers markets and coop.
• Schools – farm days etc. kid art for social media etc.
• MSU – graphic design group CATS curriculum (Susan Gallagher)
• Work with title companies and property management for HOA contacts.
• Use existing resources rather than create a new entity.
• CD – hosts the information site.
• Budget might be slim?
• Are there existing materials?
• Get cost estimates and tiers
o Content o Distribution costs
o Printing
o Etc.
• Jennifer – develop a better budget estimate and present in January.
4. USGS grant for Water Mapping – Chris Saunders
• USGS has a program to update water resource maps. This initiative has come out of the
Gallatin Collaborative. Updating accuracy on watercourse maps is a priority from all
stakeholders and is a source of conflict and frustration.
• Troy – MT state library. GIS lead for water information. Hydrography and LIDR data sets.
LIDR available for all of Gallatin County from USGS 3DHP is new data set based on
elevation dataset and a complete re-mapping of watercourses.
• Elaine – USGS Denver. These new maps are supported through partnerships (not grants
and not solely from USGS). 3DHP is connected to national wetlands data sets and other
data.

• Cost $130 per square mile. HUC 10s rough cost $49K – we can only do HUCs with LIDR
• State library will take the lead on the application for USGS and works on the
coordination. We have talked with DEQ on nonpoint source program – they may have
some funding to get it going.
• Project will take about 2 years
• Would include ditches – captured by LIDR – any channels that would carry water
• Can do agreements with federal agencies – NRCS(possible), FS(unlikely), TU, AGAI, CD,
Gallatin Task Force,
• DCA opens annually in September and open until spent. Currently in limbo without a
budget. We can submit proposal at any time and if no funding is available then it would
be considered in September. Target in March-April with identifying HUCs in January and
good faith commitments in February. Would hear in May or be reconsidered in
September.
• Being used for floodplain mapping.
• Learn more about the 3D Hydrography Program at a "Lunch and Learn" webinar on January 10, 12:00-1:00, put on by USGS and Montana State Library to give us all the details about the program and answer questions. This was Jennifer Boyer's great idea. Join by using this Zoom Link. If you know of a potential funding partner that is not included on this email, please pass along information about the webinar.
• Attend a Working Group meeting on Wednesday, January 22, 10:00-12:00, to identify project budget
and geographic scope. At this meeting, we want to have an idea of how much money we can each bring to the table. We need matching funds of at least $25K to do the minimum project area, and our goal is $140K to do the whole Gallatin Watershed. This meeting will be in person, location TBD. Let me know if you need a virtual option, and I can provide a link.
Discussion and Direction
5. PCC Representation Discussion. Additional perspectives on the Committee? Have agriculture or
other representation?
• Purpose is to coordinate the 3 entities – consensus
• Work with experts and partners as we need to based on the projects and initiatives that we
are engaged on, can add more folks to ad hoc work groups or committees.
6. How to support cross jurisdiction GIS and data updates. What procedures or timelines should
be implemented? Does the PCC help coordinate? Is this a year end agenda item with joint
meeting of GIS departments?
• PCC help coordinate all GIS Dept. do data transfers and they are the experts that can
convene on a meeting in January.
7. Triangle Community Plan implementation priorities – what is top of mind to take action on in
2025?
• Coordination of systems across boundaries- o Mapping of watersheds
o GIS collaboration o Ag Communication
