Thereport details water affordability among households and utilities across theU.S., summarizes decades of research by utilities, academics, andassociations, and includes recommendations to address affordability. Manylow-income households struggle to pay their water bills, leading to economic stress and the potential to lose access to water services, or even their homes in certain instances. When households are unable to pay their water bills, service disconnections can have impacts that include public health concerns, economic instability, social inequality, and psychological and psychosocialstress. Water utilities, meanwhile, are working to meet rising costs foroperations and maintenance, upgrading aging infrastructure, and protectinghuman health and the environment, while facing difficult decisions aboutraising rates – often with the possible consequence of taking on substantialfinancial risk. During this webinar we will provide an overview of EPA’s initialassessment, Walk through key findings and approach used, and discussplanned future analyses. Register here for the Webinar Thursday, Jan 9, 2024: 11:00 AM MT Using WIFIA and SRF Programs to Finance Water InfrastructureProjects: The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA)program and the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fundprograms provide financing solutions to help communities address theirwater infrastructure needs. Communities can use these EPA programs together to co-finance up to 100% of an eligible project. Co- funding with the WIFIA and SRF programs offers funding recipientsefficiencies, cost savings, and other advantages. This webinar will provide anoverview of the WIFIA and SRF programs and describe how both programscan be used to maximize water infrastructure funding for communities. Water ICAT combines waterutility information with compliance, community, and water infrastructurefunding data allowing users to efficiently screen for utilities that may benefit from additional federal, state, or local support. Please join us for an overview and demo of Water ICAT, hosted by the EPA. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) provides $1 billion for states and local governments with the authority to adopt traditional building energy codes and innovative building energy codes, such as building performance standards, to lead the way in decarbonizing the new and existing residentialand commercial buildings. Codes are typically used to "raise the floor," butthis opportunity lets jurisdictions take innovative approaches to efficiency andemissions reductions for their new and renovated buildings through theadoption of the latest model energy codes, zero energy codes, or otherstandards with equivalent energy savings, like a building performancestandard. With rebate amounts ofup to $325,000 per bus and infrastructure, these cleaner buses will result inbetter air quality on the bus, in bus loading areas, and throughout thecommunities in which they operate. After multiple grant and rebate fundingopportunities, the EPA has awarded almost $3 billion to fund approximately8,700 school bus replacements at nearly 1,300 schools. Due to the success ofthe program, the newly opened rebate opportunity offers up to $965 million from September 26th, 2024 to January 9th, 2025. The EPA expects to award approximately 60% of total funding for the 2024 Rebates Program toapplicants categorized as prioritized such as high-need school districts, low-income areas, rural school districts, and tribes. Applicants can apply for aslittle as 1 bus or up to a maximum of 50 buses. Therefore, rebates are theperfect choice for school districts looking to start the electrificationprocess.
