It's a great place to live. The lots are not too big to manage, the sidewalks aren't too long to shovel, and the neighbors are close but not too close. We come to trust our neighbors and it's easy to babysit for them, watch their house when they're gone, or lend tools to. When a large development like the proposed Guthrie goes in to a neighborhood, the number of strangers increases, parking altercations go up, and in general the feeling of safety is lost. No matter which statistics or equations are used, the quality of life in adjoining neighborhoods is diminished. When did it become more important for the city to bend over backwards to try and bring in a few more people than to preserve a good neighborhood? How is that not a priority? Is the human quality of neighborliness less important than the convenience of being able to walk to the coffee shop in the summer?
