Hi Mayor Cunningham and Council Members,
Merry Christmas! Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and a fantastic New Year!
’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the town,
Not a bus stop had seating, no bench to be found.
The rider stood waiting I have to admit,
Dreaming of benches where he could just sit.
The streetlights were dim as the buses rolled past,
Each stop left him standing, the chill gathering fast.
With hope in his heart and a scarf wrapped up tight,
He whispered his wish to the starry-lit night.
“Oh Santa,” he murmured, “if you’re flying this way,
Please bring me a bench for this stop where I stay.
For hours I linger, my legs growing sore,
A place to just sit—that’s all I implore.”
As the wind whistled softly and snowflakes did fall,
He thought he heard bells, a faint magical call.
Then out from the shadows appeared a red sleigh,
And Santa himself in his jolly array.
“Ho ho!” laughed the man with a twinkle of cheer,
“You’ve been quite patient all throughout the year.
I heard your small wish, and I couldn’t resist,
To bring comfort and joy to a rider like this.”
With a wave of his hand and a flash in the night,
A bench had appeared, glowing soft in the light.
Its seat smooth and sturdy, its armrests just right,
A Christmas gift shining so merry and bright.
The rider sat down, tears welling with glee,
“Thank you, dear Mayor, for thinking of me.”
And off Santa soared with his reindeer in tow,
Shouting, “Merry Bus Stops! May your journeys all flow!”
So now every Christmas, the riders recall,
The bench that appeared and brought joy to them all.
For sometimes the best gifts are simple, you see—
A kind thought, a nice seat, and a place to just be.
Don’t make your bus riders wait for Santa, BE SANTA!
