Dear City Commission, I write to request that the Commission reclaim its review authority over the Guthrie project. My office is within a few blocks of this project and I do not appreciate the precedent this project sets for building endless, expensive condos that are unaffordable for regular people living in our town. Projects like the Guthrie serve only to enrich developers, pad the portfolio’s of hedge funds, and incentivize affluent condo purchasers to move to our town from far flung locales. We need livable places that rent for $1,000 a month so that baristas, waitstaff, students, nurses, and teachers can live in our community. Building expensive condos so that multimillionaires can move here from Washington, California and Texas is the problem - it is not part of the solution. The Guthrie project, like the Bozeman Yards project is part of the problem. Please reclaim review authority for this project and stop using our city’s incentive programs to incentivize the construction of multimillion dollar condominiums. These buildings, the people who build them, and the people who approve them are ruining the livability of our community. Sincerely, Jory Ruggiero 720 East Orange St. Bozeman, MT 59715 Bozeman Resident for 25 years
