Dear Bozeman City Commission,
I'm writing to voice my opposition to the proposed Block 104 / Bozeman Yards development
in my neighborhood. I'm grateful that I was able to attend a community NENA meeting a fewweeks ago where your staff, Jesse and Nick, gave excellent context and information regarding
TIF funding and traffic management.
After hearing from both and reviewing the application plans - I feel strongly this projectshould not be approved in this location. The proposal to close down Ida and build a new road
on Aspen - where extremely valuable and rare greenspace currently exists - is shortsighted andwrong for this community. The proposed new road on Aspen will only serve the capital
partners investing in the project. Community members and neighbors will not benefit fromthis new road that literally has dead ends in both directions. As a renter at 626 E Peach street -
we see a lot of fast moving traffic as a corridor around main street. Some of this trafficpressure is reduced by allowing cars to turn north on Ida to meet up with Rouse. Closing
down Ida would increase the traffic at the busy residential / commercial intersection of Peach& Wallace. While I understand this intersection is still within the load capacity defined by
traffic engineers, my common sense tells me that more traffic heading down Ida, away fromresidential areas, is a good thing.
We can do better and the out of state capital investors can try harder.
This is coming from a renter looking for affordable housing in Bozeman. This project is not
what we need and not a good use of $3.66mm in public assistance.
Wallace Works is a better example of integrating into the community and respecting the localculture.
Sincerely,
Ben Landry
