Dear City Commission and Economic Development Department,
I'm writing to express my concern over the existing Affordable Housing Ordinance. I am a
homeowner in Bozeman. We currently live in a neighborhood near campus that is mixed withhomeowners and rentals.
This works well for everyone and the rent is affordable in the existing houses. What I amseeing is that building these enormous apartment buildings does not provide affordable
housing and decreases the value of the existing homes in the neighborhood. The three-storycondo complex next to Irving school is a perfect example. bigger apartment buildings are
appropriate and some circumstances and locations, but flopping them in the middle of existingneighborhoods and historical neighborhoods seems like the wrong idea.
What I am hoping is that the city will amend your affordable housing code to includemaintaining the value and character of the current neighborhood and not allowing over two
stories or whatever currently exist in that neighborhood. I also hope that we can bring backhistoric preservation, and people who job is to help historic neighborhoods, maintain their
value and historic presence. I also wanted to mention the timing of the meeting this evening at 4 PM is impossible for me
to attend because I work till five. I am hoping there will be other meetings that I can attend asa working person and or attend on zoom.
Thank you,
Heather Musselman
