I am writing to formally request that the City Commission refrain from granting any incentives
for development on Block B. As a lifelong resident of Bozeman, a business owner indowntown, a parent of children at Hawthorne, and an engaged citizen deeply invested in our
community's welfare, I feel compelled to voice my concerns.
Recently, I have observed a trend of rapid, often uncontrolled growth within our city that lacksthorough planning and consideration for existing infrastructure. For instance, the proposal to
add over 40 residential units containing 2-4 bedrooms, coupled with a mere 80 parking spots, raises significant red flags for our community's livability. As a business owner, I find myself
having to pay for parking for my customers, despite my own private lot being perpetually full—not by our clientele, but rather by others seeking to navigate our already congested streets.
It is crucial to halt these decisions that do not favor the interests of local businesses or the
vibrancy of our downtown area. While I wholeheartedly agree that Bozeman needs morehousing units to accommodate our growing population, simply increasing the number of cars
and residents in a congested area is not the solution. This approach will only amplify the stressand strain placed upon the businesses and individuals who are already part of our community.
It is imperative that we seek out thoughtful, sustainable development strategies that prioritizeboth growth and quality of life for all Bozeman residents.
Truly,
Julie W. Collins
