City of Bozeman Department of Community Development ATTN: Community Development Application 23306
To the director of Community Development:
This comment is in strong opposition to the proposed Range 5
Development, application # 23306.
My name is Alice Heriza, I grew up on the farm directly north of
the propsed development site. I currently work full time with my
parents growing flowers for our community, and providing a
space for locals and tourists to come and enjoy a small piece of
serenity, and connect with nature. Our farm allows people to pick
flowers, raspberries, and to visit our honor system farm shop.
My parents, and all of the famers before them have put endless
hours, sleepless nights, and their livelihood into this land for
many years, these 20 acres have produced food, flowers, local
meat, and much more that has nourished our community. This
farm is my home, passion, and full time career. The proposed
development threatens to undermine the future of our farm and
my ability to continue the business my family has worked so hard
to build.
As farmers, we are deeply connected to the land, and the success
of our business relies on the health and integrity of the
surrounding environment. This apartment complex would alter
the character of our rural landscape, and introduce new risks to
our farm including water runoff, pollution, and the inevitable rise
in traffic. Our business depends on the space this area provides,
and this development would directly threaten that.
As a second generation farmer, it makes me sick that this
development plan could be the reason I will no longer be able to
continue 4 Daughters Farm after my parents on this property I
grew up on, and have gotten to know so well over the years.
Please listen to the concerns of the community members who
have voiced opposition to this project, and take into consideration
what Bozeman truly needs moving forward. We don’t need more
generic, low-cost, three-story apartment buildings that are
unaffordable to many local residents—including myself, a
college graduate who works full-time. These cheap, eye sore
apartment buildings are destroying Bozeman’s rural character and
charm that it has to offer.
We must find a balance between growth and preservation,
ensuring that Bozeman’s future remains vibrant, sustainable, and
connected to the land that has sustained us for generations.
Thank you for your consideration,
Alice Heriza
