Re: Reference application 23306
Project Name: Range 5 Development
Save 4 Daughters’ Farm
To Whom it May Concern:
My 11 year old daughter and I visit family in Bozeman every summer. When people ask my
daughter about her favorite summer activity she does not say acting camp, she does not say
going to the beach, she says "visiting 4 Daughters’ Farm."
It is truly sad to see a state like Montana that purports to support ranchers and farmers, fall
prey to the dollar signs of development over the precious resources of the community.
Developments are being built at the expense of some of your most fertile farming land, at the
expense of the small scale farmer, and at the expense of a truly educational and enriching
experience that is part of what makes Bozeman so special.
Remember you cannot go back. You cannot reverse this process, so I highly recommend that
you at least slow down and make sure that you have really thought through these housing
developments and take careful stock of what is being lost.
Imagine if instead of ill and hastily conceived housing developments, the priority was the
valuable resources of your town and state and maintaining a place that people can live in and
visit for truly soul enriching experiences. Imagine, if the farming land that I have witnessed
over the years being taken over by housing developments, was instead preserved in a way
that coexisted with and not destroyed small farms.
Yes, Bozeman is in desperate need of more housing, but you cannot claim you have not been
warned of the short sightedness of these housing developments. In a few years from now
when you have wiped out your small farmers and covered your most fertile farming land with
a sprawl of tall apartment buildings, please remember this was a choice.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
A concerned 4 Daughters' Farm Fan
