Dear City of Bozeman Department of Community Development, I am writing to formally express my strong opposition to the Range 5 Site Plan (Application 23306) and its potential to severely impact our local farming community, including myfriend’s farm. While I understand the need for development and housing in the area, the proposed project raises significant concerns that need to be addressed before moving forward. The construction of 312 multi-household apartments and the associated infrastructure improvements will create a range of challenges that directly threaten the viability of nearbyagricultural operations. The development will introduce increased runoff, negatively affecting soil and water quality on my friend's farm. With the expansion of roads and the addition of large apartmentbuildings, there is also the risk of blocking critical southern exposure light, which is essential for healthy crop growth. Furthermore, the noise pollution from both the new development and the associated traffic willdisrupt livestock and wildlife, compromising the peaceful environment we rely on for our farming practices. One of the most concerning aspects of the project is the estimated additionof 500-1,000 vehicles, which will exacerbate traffic congestion, especially on local roads like Stucky Road. As it stands, Stucky Road is not equipped to handle this level of traffic—it is anarrow, two-lane road without shoulder areas, and we already see numerous accidents and vehicles ending up in ditches. There are also significant safety concerns for cyclists who usethe road. Without improvements to the arterial routes, this development will only worsen the existing traffic hazards. Additionally, the proposed development site is home to groves of trees that provide criticalhabitat for wildlife and shade for both our livestock and customers. The loss of these green spaces to multi-story apartment buildings will not only diminish local biodiversity but alsocreate a visual and environmental barrier to our farm, which has relied on these natural areas to offer a tranquil experience for visitors. In light of these concerns, I strongly urge you toreconsider the Range 5 Site Plan. We need a solution that accounts for the long-term health of our local farming community, the environment, and the safety of our roads. I believe there arealternative ways to meet the region’s housing needs without compromising the livelihoods of local farmers and the natural spaces we depend on. This farm is truly an essential part of Bozeman culture and community, I hope that you greatlyconsider this when moving forward. I would be happy to discuss this matter further and explore alternative solutions that better balance development with the needs of the agriculturalcommunity. Sincerely, Mackenna Overholt
