Dear City Commissioners:
We are writing in support of the three recommendations made in Alison Sweeney's guestcolumn in the Wednesday, November 13, 2024 edition of the BDC. She argues persuasively 1)
against allowing Block B to tear down two apartment buildings on East Babcock (523 and533 East Babcock) and building a 90-foot-tall luxury development (I agree with her that this
tear down affordable housing/build luxury apartment high-rise is a bad idea); 2) againstallowing Block B to swap land for additional height--part of the city's "incentive" plan for
developers (again, I agree with her that this trade is not worth it--her evidence is compelling);and 3) in favor of using the apartment buildings in question (523 and 533 East Babcock) as
opportunities for affordable housing preservation (one of the City Commission's priorities andone Alison Sweeney and we wholeheartedly support). Please listen to Sweeney's
recommendations. They are excellent and well informed.Sincerely,
