Dear Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioners, and Community Planning Collaborative, I'm writing today to
comment on the update to Bozeman's Historic Preservation Policy, the NCOD, and the Local Landmark
Program.
Below I forward comment in regard to the Historic Preservation and NCOD considerations:
- I continue to ask myself "why"...why modify provisions of Historical Preservation. The Commission
"says" they wish to retain Bozeman's historical character, but that conflicts with what I understand are
inconsistent enforcement of the current NCOD over the years. How could an area of Bozeman decades
ago defied as "historic", now all of a sudden not be historic. Can someone explain?
- "Why"....is the city apparently trying to get rid of the NCOD....it is, perhaps, the only meaningful guardrail
to protection of Bozeman's historic neighborhoods vs. development of new, slick, taller buildings that will
never blend in with the historic homes and buildings in town.
I strongly favor keeping and strengthening the NCOD in the interest of maintaining the great character
and appeal of Bozeman. More importantly...I continue to lack an understanding as to why the city would
want to change/weaken the very foundation that makes Bozeman/Bozeman.
Thank you.
Jeffrey Loeb
