Dear Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioners, and Community Planning Collaborative, Hello, Although I cannot attend the Noe 19th event on historic preservation, I read the initialguidance document and the historic preservation survey results. I have a brief comment regarding on the update to Bozeman's Historic Preservation Policy and the NeighborhoodConservation Overlay District (NCOD) . I have lived in Bozeman since 2015. Although I do not live in one of the historic preservation areas of the city, I often drive within several ofthese areas and value historic preservation as an essential attribute and benefit of Bozeman. Walking or driving through historic preservation areas of the city captures the attention of thevisitor and interest in experiencing elements of its history. The survey results revealed a strong support for historic preservation and it’s benefits to theentire city, not only among those who live historic preservation districts. That’s why I was disappointed at the initial guidance policy recommendation to repeal and replace the DesignGuidelines for Historic Preservation and the NCOD in relation to the Unified Development Code. I feel strongly that historic the preservation guidelines and the NCOD have served andare serving the city well and that repeal and replacing them would be a disservice to the present and future quality of life of Bozeman. I urge that more attention be given to the surveyresults and to education of the public regrading Bozeman’s colorful and dynamic history. Although developing affordable housing in Bozeman is a major need, reducing historicpreservation guidance to increase housing, likely to be unaffordable, would negatively affect quality if life in Bozeman and not achieve the goal of increasing affordable housing. I urgethat more attention be given to enhancing historic preservation as an essential attribute of Bozeman. I appreciate the opportunity to comment.
