Dear Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioners, and Community Planning Collaborative, I would like to comment on the update to Bozeman's Historic Preservation Policy, the NCOD, and the Local Landmark Program. A quote from the consultants’ Initial Guidance Report: “Bozeman citizens and the community are the experts in identifying Bozeman’s needs and goals.” I couldn’t agree more. When it comes to the topic of historic preservation and the NCOD, what the community is most concerned about is retaining the character of Bozeman’s older neighborhoods. Establishing local landmarks and preserving cultural sites in the core of Bozeman is all well and good, but many in the community are worried the city will remove protections on everything else to accommodate increased redevelopment. This is not what we want, and we are the experts as established in the Initial Guidance Report. There is plenty of land in the Bozeman-Belgrade-Four Corners Triangle that can be developed for residential uses. Please leave our established neighborhoods alone. I support returning to the NCOD protections that were instituted under the old Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). Fred Maxted 505 S. Tracy Ave. (for 30 years)
