To the City of Bozeman - Department of Community Development:
I write to ask that you very carefully consider Application #23306 by the developers of
"Range 5" as approval of the project as presented would dramatically alter the remaining openspace in this area, negatively affecting family farms, wetlands and traffic flow and safety.
Allowing R-2 development - multiple large apartment buildings to replace open farmland
containing a house, barn and shed - immediately adjacent to family farms would not give duerespect and consideration to the current property owners. As in the core area of Bozeman, it is
necessary to build in transitional areas between different types of development in order tomitigate problems that arise when there is a clash of land use categories.
I am particularly familiar with Four Daughters Farm, which would be severely impacted if
Range 5 is allowed to proceed as proposed. The owners of this family farm have worked hardto create a small agricultural business that caters to a community in need of an authentic
connection to the land. The farm grows flowers, berries and other crops and raises a limitednumber of livestock, inviting the community to come onto the land to pick produce, meet
their animals, and join in events like their fall festival. Three-story apartment buildings, parking structures and dumpsters located at the edge of their farm would affect their ability to
operate - reducing sunlight, giving rise to issues with run-off, and changing the overallexperience of living on and visiting the farm.
Another point to consider: Traffic is already an issue on over-burdened Stucky Road, and a
traffic report included in Application #23306 indicates the possible necessity of majorconstruction on the road prior to a scheduled work date for improving the road in 2028.
Should a proposed development drive scheduling of public road projects, pushing an alreadyoverloaded and expensive slate of construction work to accommodate its needs? I think not.
I encourage you to deny this proposed development as presented. Thank you for your
consideration of the greater needs of the Bozeman area community.
