Hello,
My name is Ali Moxley and I have lived here in the Gallatin Valley for the last decade. I have
worked on many different farms throughout the valley as a farm worker. I now help farmersthroughout the valley find, write, and apply for private and public funding opportunities.
Everyone in the Gallatin Valley has felt the increasing development in different ways, but one
idea remains clear. As the population of Bozeman continues to expand, we must prioritize ourfood security. I am certainly not anti-development as a renting resident that dreams of one day
being able to own a home/ condo in the valley. That said, I think we must approachdevelopment thoughtfully and with a long-term lens.
After many years of work and planning, the City of Bozeman received extensive
recommendations through the Preliminary Food System Mapping Project that includedspecific steps on how to support and expand the amount of food produced for our community.
I do not think that the proposed development of "Range 5", reference application 23306, is
well-aligned with the recommendations made in the Preliminary Food System Mapping report. This development will crowd the area and will likely decrease the area of land on 4 Daughters
Farm that can be used for food production since it will be shaded out.
I would ask that the City of Bozeman spend ample time thinking through the negativeexternalities tied to this particular development. Please do not approve development that will
decrease our local food production.
Best,Ali Moxley
