To Community Development Advisory Board members –
It's unfortunate that a voluntary Heritage Tree Program and UDC-based tree protections
are not being considered for the City’s Historic Preservation Policy and Local Landmark
Program (HPPLLP). I ask the City to include these two topics in the HPPLLP.
Trees are a link to our past. I want to draw specific attention to the 100+-year-old
Ponderosa Pine on the old City Center Hotel lot, soon to be cut down to make a parking
lot. The loss of this beautiful example of our state tree saddens me. It deserves better.
Surely the new hotel there would be beautified/ennobled by having this magnificent tree
grace its property. The city needs to take the lead in encouraging developers to recognize
the value of trees like this.
For all of us.
