Read it all in the fall State of the Arts
The Montana Arts Council's Fall 2024 issue of State of the Arts is here, and we've harvested a bumper crop ofstories about arts and artists statewide:
The honorees for the 2024 Governor's Arts Awards have been named. Lear all about them here.
Not content to be Montana's current Poet Laureate, Chris La Tray has written a stirring memoir about
reconnecting to his Métis and Chippewa heritage, Becoming Little Shell.
Not content to let Chris be the only one to release a book, the Montana Arts Council is publishing an
anthology featuring works from Chris and Montana's ten previous poets laureate. It'll be available next
month, and you can learn where to get your copy here.
Combining the subjects of awards and books, the High Plains Book Awards have been honoring the best
literature of the North American plains—for 17 years running!
And in perhaps the biggest awards news of all, visual artist Wendy Red Star has received a MacArthur
Fellowship—the so-called genius grant!
Plus: learn how a film about a 1961 Dodge Lancer and its owners is being made—right here in Montana.
Reap these stories and the rest of fall's harvest of the arts in this issue of State of the Arts. Enjoy!
