Dear Mr. Liva:
This letter provides a request for a speed limit study on E.Valley Center Road from N. 19th to Valley
Center Spur. The City of Bozeman has adopted a Safe Systems Approach on the city's roads. One
approach that the city is taking in this effort is reviewing speed limits across our network and reducing
speed limits where appropriate. We have completed this effort on all city-controlled streets and have
submitted studies to MDT for review on Baxter Lane,Oak Street, and Kagy Boulevard. Recently, the
team working on the Turnrow development adjacent to East Valley Center Road approached the city
about the potential of requesting that MDT review the speed limits on East Valley Center Road. The city
supports the idea of evaluating the speed limit on East Valley Center Road. This section of East Valley
Center Road has seen rapid development over the past several years that includes a new campus for
Billings Clinic as well as the proposed Turnrow development that will be high density mixed use. These
developments will be constructing a shared use path along their frontage of East Valley Center. When
completed, in the next several years, the path will be a regional connection stretching from N 191h
Avenue to Jackrabbit Lane. The transportation impact studies for the Billings Clinic and Turnrow
developments point toward signalization of N 27th Avenue, Davis Lane, and the future Ferguson Road
along this stretch of East Valley Center within the next 5-10 years. Given the changes that have already
occurred to the context of East Valley Center Road and the changes that are proposed, the city supports
a speed limit study and any subsequent changes to the speed limit as a result of the study as was done
on East Valley Center Road to the west of Valley Center Spur.
Thank you for your consideration.
