Mr Mayor and City Commissioners, Thank You for the initial approval of Ordinance 2166, prohibiting trapping on City Lands and on City lands in the Bozeman Creek watershed. The Commission had concerns because the City does not own all the land along Bozeman Creek Trail. Banning trapping on the land the city owns however would greatly decrease the chance a hiker or their pet and god forbid a child, would be caught in a trap or snare. One property the City owns does provide a substantial improvement in safety. This is the first parcel of land near the trailhead. The area near the trailhead has the highest volume of traffic and therefore the greatest number of people are in danger of inadvertently being injured by a trap. Because of the near urban setting of Bozeman Creek Trail many users take a short hike or walk the dogs during lunch break. Banning trapping on the City parcel near the trailhead would give these "short hike" users a valuable safety zone for most of their hike or dog walk. The number one issue in deciding to approve Ordinance 2166 should be public safety. Please approve Ordinance 2166 once again on September 24, 2024. Thank You, James Bell 6474 Jackson Creek Road, Bozeman, Montana
