The City should be discussing environmental protection as a key focus area in the UDC Update Process.
* Keeping existing trees standing is a key step towards climate resilience.
* The Unified Development Code has environmental protection codes that are not being followed. Trees, other vegetation
and topsoil are supposed to be preserved when developing. It’s time to enforce this code or revise it if it isn’t written clearly
enough.
* The UDC will affect all future generations of Bozemanites. Protecting natural resources should be the first step in reviewing
or approving any development proposal.
* Trees are appreciating assets worth protecting. Trees are the only city infrastructure that increases in economic, ecological
and social value over time versus roads, pipes, wire which depreciate over time. Saving existing trees makes sense.
* The City of Bozeman has the responsibility to be the best land steward it can be given its position in the Greater
Yellowstone Ecosystem. You, as Commissioners, are in the position to lead.

work to add invisible infill to our existing neighborhoods.
Work with the Historic Preservation Advisory Board to update Bozeman’s
Historic Preservation Program concurrently, since this also lives in Chapter 38
of Bozeman Code.
Implement an Affordable Housing Overlay Zone (AHOZ) to help prevent
gentrification and displacement in existing neighborhoods.
Implement recommendations from the Better Bozeman
Coalition’s Neighborhood Friendly Unified Development Code report.
