Dear Commission,
I appreciate the ongoing work to try to get more affordable housing in Bozeman. The mixed-income project proposed at 7th and Aspen appears to be able to provide a decent level of
affordability due to its plan to utilize both 4% and 9% LIHTC, but it will also plan on usingthe controversial deep incentives that some of you on the Commission have vocalized
concerns about.
In looking at the site plan, I am a little disheartened by how many trees plan to be demolishedin the process. As a recent and excellent pechakucha presentation stated: "Trees and housing
can co-exist." It will take decades to recover the shade and benefits of the mature trees wecontinue to lose.
Here are some photos of the trees that will be demolished.
Two large trees along 7th in phase 1.
Several large trees to be demolished to be a temporary parking lot, or in phase 3 for themarket-rate housing.
In the neighborhood, we have already lost other large trees.
As we enter the UDC re-write, I implore the Commission to consider ways to protect maturetrees as this city develops.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Natsuki
