Dear City Commission,
I am writing to express my concerns about the current process of updating Bozeman’s Unified
Development Code and the exclusion of key stakeholders in this process. As a resident ofBozeman, I believe it is critical to include input from various groups and ensure a more
comprehensive approach to this development.
I urge the City Commission to incorporate the following into the update process:
1. Work with the Inter Neighborhood Council to draft updated building codes that encourageinvisible infill in our existing neighborhoods. This would help preserve the character of our
communities while addressing the need for more housing.
2. Collaborate with the Historic Preservation Advisory Board to update Bozeman’s HistoricPreservation Program concurrently. Given that this also falls under Chapter 38 of the Bozeman
Code, it is vital to ensure the historic integrity of our city is maintained during thisdevelopment process.
3. Implement an Affordable Housing Overlay Zone (AHOZ) to help mitigate gentrification
and displacement in existing neighborhoods. This is especially important to protect long-standing residents from being priced out of their homes.
4. Incorporate recommendations from the Better Bozeman Coalition’s Neighborhood Friendly
Unified Development Code report to ensure the development code reflects the values andneeds of Bozeman’s neighborhoods.
Bozeman is growing rapidly, and it’s essential that we work collaboratively to shape a future
that benefits all residents. I hope the City Commission will consider these recommendationsand take steps to ensure a more inclusive and thoughtful approach to this process.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Kristi Jackson
