Dear Mayor and City Commission of Bozeman, I am writing to express my strong support for the campaign to ban recreational trapping andsnaring on city-owned land in Sourdough Canyon. The Sourdough Creek drainage is a vital habitat for wildlife and an important recreation area for the residents of Bozeman. The currentpractice of allowing trapping and snaring in this area poses significant risks not only to our beloved pets but also to children and protected wildlife species such as lynx and grizzly bears. The indiscriminate nature of trapping is alarming, and the suffering inflicted on both target and non-target animals is unacceptable in today’s society. Trapping on public land, especiallyin such a high-use area, creates unnecessary danger for people and animals alike. The fact that less than half of 1% of Montana’s population engages in trapping, yet this activity continues tothreaten the safety of the vast majority of us who use these lands for recreation, is deeply concerning. I urge you to consider the well-being of our community, our pets, and the wildlife that call Sourdough Canyon home. It is time to break from the outdated tradition of recreationaltrapping and make the canyon a safe, humane place for all. Please support the ban on trapping and snaring on city-owned land in Sourdough Canyon. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Zhengyan Wang
