Dear Bozeman Mayor and Commissioners,
Trapping in Sour Dough Canyon needs to stop. This is an area where the public goes to enjoy
the beauty of Montana, and due to trapping, it isn’t safe. Hikers, pets, children and non-intended wildlife are at risk when they enter beautiful Sourdough Canyon. Traps are
indiscriminate. They kill, mangle, and torture any living thing they catch. Why are weallowing these in a recreational area?
The other side of the issue is that trapping is inhumane. An animal should not have to suffer a
horrible death just because someone wants it dead. This isn’t the 18th and 19th centurieswhere trapping was used to provide food and clothing. It’s become more of a game or a hobby
and used less as a means of survival.
As a proud Montanan, outdoor enthusiast and a Bozeman property owner, I respectfully askthat the commission ban trapping in Sour Dough canyon before there is a tragedy to human
life. I also ask on behalf of all the innocent animals who will suffer horrible deaths due to steeltraps.
