We are requesting a deviation for the proposed fire and water service lines to be greater than 150’ per Bozeman regulation section 38.410.070.B.2. “The length of service lines from the main to the structure may not exceed 150 feet in length, unless approved in writing by the city.” The proposed fire service is 229 feet and the water service 220 feet. The variance requested will not be detrimental to the public health, safety, general welfare, or be injurious to adjoining and surrounding properties. Due to the layout of the existing water infrastructure and the proposed buildings there no alternatives for the fire and water services that would allow for them to be less than 150 feet. Attached, please find a copy of the calculations showing there is enough capacity for the fire/water services to be more than 150’. Please respond at your earliest convenience with any comments or questions to the address provided below, or feel free to contact me directly at 406- 586-0262 or eringsak@wwcengineering.com Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, WWC Engineering _____________________________ Erik Ringsak, PE, CMI Cc: file N Fire Flow Requirements Water Service Requirements Based on the Montana Public Works, 02660 - 6th Edition Page 13 of 21 for Water Distribution. Required flow to produce 2.5 ft/s velocity when flushing pipes. 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code. Page 114 section 610.12.1 Copper Tube Systems. Maximum velocities in copper and copper alloy tube and fitting systems shall not exceed 8 feet per second (ft/s) (2.4m/s) in cold water and 5 ft/s (1.5m/s) in hot water. The deviation request was for a 1.5" copper water service to achieve 2.5ft/s at the meter due to length being over 150 LF. Calculations: Based on City water pressure provided. The 1.5" copper water service has adequate velocity.
